WatchGuard Technologies has enhanced its position in cybersecurity by launching the WatchGuard Open MDR. This development seeks to expand managed detection and response (MDR) offerings, particularly for Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

Open MDR extends 24/7 detection and response capabilities to a range of third-party tools, allowing MSPs to offer security services across multiple customer environments. The service removes the need for disruptive platform changes.

Some security vendors add complexity with more tools and noise rather than effective solutions. However, WatchGuard's approach with Open MDR aims for enterprise-grade protection without requiring forced migrations. The service integrates native WatchGuard technologies with third-party environments under a unified operational framework, allowing MSPs to streamline service delivery efficiently.

Intended Key Advantages of Open MDR:

  • Reduced noise: The system is designed to highlight critical issues promptly for swift action.
  • Advanced AI capabilities: Utilising AI/ML, Open MDR minimises false positives and speeds up threat response within minutes.
  • Enterprise benefits at a manageable scale: Smaller partners can compete effectively without investing heavily in Security Operations Centres (SOC).

Partners and clients intend to benefit from:

  • Integrated visibility across diverse tools like network, cloud, and identity solutions.
  • 24/7 expert monitoring by WatchGuard’s SOC, eliminating the need for in-house SOC staffing.
  • Quick, collaborative threat responses to contain and neutralise incidents efficiently.
  • Flexible operations with no mandatory migrations, ensuring smooth customer engagements.

This new offering aligns with WatchGuard's MDR vision, allowing partners to deliver managed security solutions seamlessly, maintaining high service quality without unnecessary complexity.

WatchGuard Open MDR addresses existing challenges wherein organisations have security tools but lack the resources to operationalise them effectively. The company's SOC takes charge, validating and acting on threats swiftly to prevent escalation. Additionally, AI-driven threat hunting aids in earlier risk detection and informs confident decision-making through detailed reporting.

Designed specifically for MSPs, Open MDR supports scaled delivery. The system supports tools, including WatchGuard's own Firebox, alongside widely-used products like Microsoft 365, AWS, and others, all without demanding migration.

Technical support remains strong, with technical account managers on standby to assist with escalations and ongoing security guidance. This framework aims for streamlined security operations, offering a more proactive approach to addressing cyber threats for small to mid-size businesses.
