DMTF announces Redfish API advancements

Recently the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) announced its latest advancements to the Redfish™ standard, which extend the groundbreaking API to help simplify data center storage management.

In addition, the organization unveiled the Redfish Developer Hub, a one-stop, in-depth technical resource that provides developers with all the Redfish API files, tools, support and education from around the industry.
Designed to reduce vendor lock-in and increase the productivity of system administrators, DMTF’s Redfish API is an open industry standard specification and schema that helps enable simple, secure and interoperable management of modern scalable platform hardware. By specifying a RESTful interface and utilizing JSON and OData, Redfish helps customers integrate solutions within their existing tool chains. The result of broad industry collaboration, an aggressive development schedule is quickly advancing Redfish toward its goal of addressing manageability of all the components in the data center with a consistent API.
One of the main features of the Redfish Developer is the Schema Index, which serves as a central repository of Redfish schema files and descriptions from both DMTF and the industry. DMTF welcomes extensions to Redfish and works with its Alliance Partners and OEMs to leverage and expand Redfish. For example, SNIA is developing Swordfish, which builds upon Redfish’s local storage management capabilities to address enterprise storage services.
The full Redfish API includes new DMTF Redfish schemas for local storage management, firmware update services, NVDIMM, as well as PCIe switch and device management. DMTF invites public comment on these work-in-progress schemas, which are expected to be released in final format later this quarter.
