Pilot Photonics, an Irish integrated lasers firm, has entered a partnership with Finchetto, a company developing a fully optical passive network switch designed for energy-efficient AI systems.

The collaboration will use Pilot’s nanosecond tunable lasers to support the development of Finchetto’s next-generation network switch devices for data centres. Finchetto’s fully optical and passive network switch is designed to reduce data network power consumption and latency, while improving network throughput.

The combination of Pilot’s laser technology and Finchetto’s network switch development aims to support the scaling and optimisation of cloud and AI data centres. Tunable lasers at the packet level enhance the network switching capability, enabling faster data transmission and processing.

The partnership has already resulted in successful demonstrations of Finchetto’s optical switching approach incorporating Pilot’s lasers. The next phase involves integrating these developments into the next generation of demonstrator models, with teams from both companies collaborating closely.

Pilot Photonics will also showcase its laser technologies at the OFC 2026 conference in Los Angeles, California, from 17 to 19 March, highlighting their work in integrated optical technologies and supporting future developments.
