Portnox heightens zero trust with console-based application support

Portnox expands its Zero Trust Network Access solution by including console-based applications, removing passwords from critical access points.

Portnox has announced an expansion of its Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) solution, extending credential-free access beyond traditional applications to include enterprise console-based applications. Organisations can now eliminate passwords for Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), Secure Shell (SSH), Virtual Network Computing (VNC), and Teletype Network (Telnet).

This expansion addresses the fact that passwords are involved in a significant portion of data breaches. By removing the need for credentials from administrative access, Portnox aims to enhance security while maintaining a user-friendly experience.

As businesses adopt hybrid working models, migrate to the cloud, and integrate AI, the attack surface for IT systems continues to grow. Traditional approaches, such as legacy VPNs or simple password management tools, often secure outdated architectures rather than addressing the underlying risks.

Portnox’s approach removes passwords and credentials entirely. According to a Forrester Total Economic Impact study, organisations implementing Portnox Cloud achieved a 287% ROI, a 75% reduction in breach risk, and a 90% faster deployment of new sites, with payback in under six months.

Key features of the updated solution include:

  • Passwordless, certificate-based authentication for RDP, SSH, VNC, and Telnet connections
  • Continuous monitoring of device status and automated remediation of non-compliant endpoints before access is granted
  • Minimal network disruption, with no need for firewall changes or VPN client installations
  • Unified access to enterprise applications via single sign-on, real-time access policies, and risk-adaptive security
With many CISOs anticipating the replacement of legacy VPNs by 2027, these updates provide organisations with passwordless access across enterprise systems while maintaining security and operational efficiency.

The enhancements, including secure enterprise access capabilities and updates to Portnox’s Secure Access Portal, are available immediately as part of the latest Portnox ZTNA release.
