UrbanChain boosts renewable capacity with new agreement

UrbanChain launches renewable power agreement, adding 120 GWh annually to support data centres.

UrbanChain has made an addition to its renewable energy portfolio. With the commencement of a multi-year renewable power purchase agreement, the company is set to infuse its operational framework with over 120 GWh of UK-based, grid-scale renewable electricity annually.

The agreement, supported by offshore wind energy, officially started operations on 31 December 2025. This development increases UrbanChain’s contracted renewable generation in Scotland.

With this new contract, UrbanChain increases its capability to offer support for data centres and other digital infrastructure requiring substantial energy input. The timing and geographical matching of renewable power to demand have been optimised, providing solutions for operators grappling with constrained grid connections, climbing power costs, and the increasing need for credible renewable supply.

UrbanChain’s enhanced capacity supports consistent energy access for high-demand users. This approach differs from certificate-based solutions, focusing on real-time operational access to renewable power.

The company facilitates an infrastructure-grade market access, seeking to bridge the gap between grid-scale renewable generation and major energy consumers. It leverages data-driven trading mechanisms to ensure optimal consumption of renewable power in terms of both time and location.

Adding to its growing portfolio of renewable offtakes, UrbanChain positions itself for sustained expansion. As the renewable agreement becomes an active component, it is set to underpin UrbanChain's continuous growth in catering to energy-intensive sectors such as data centres through 2026 and beyond.
