N-able, Inc. (NYSE: NABL), a leader in software solutions, has launched Cat-MIP, an innovative tool aimed at unifying terminology for AI automation in the IT and MSP sectors. With its introduction, the company hopes to mitigate the prevalent issue of inconsistent language across platforms and vendors.

The designated Cat-MIP Standards Board, featuring members such as HaloPSA, Auvik Networks, SecurityBiaS, and ScalePad, is tasked with developing a vendor-neutral dictionary. This tool seeks to seamlessly integrate AI, ensuring agents interpret and execute commands accurately, regardless of the platform, such as in "restart all my devices," reducing potential misinterpretation.

At its heart, Cat-MIP supports smarter, more dependable automation by enabling consistent communication across systems. This effort ultimately results in a more secure and efficient IT environment.

The formalisation of this standard is vital, as noted by Kathleen Moriarty, CEO at SecurityBiaS. Establishing a precise terminology foundation is comparable to understanding one's assets before risk assessment, fostering secure AI interactions across platforms and organisations, she says.

Key Benefits of Cat-MIP Include:

  • Enhanced Cybersecurity and Reliability: Minimises AI command errors, ensuring essential processes are executed accurately the first time.
  • Interoperability and Collaboration: Provides flexibility, allowing providers to select appropriate tools without vendor lock-ins.
  • Accelerated Innovation: Supported by an expanding partner board, Cat-MIP facilitates collaboration, accelerating advancements within the IT sector.

Nicole Reineke, Senior Distinguished Product Manager at N-able, underscores the critical role of Cat-MIP, terming it the "semantic backbone" driving secure and scalable collaborations within the N-able ecosystem, ensuring AI accuracy and trustworthiness. "When AI misinterprets commands, the consequences can be costly, or even dangerous from a cybersecurity standpoint. Cat-MIP works to increase precision, so organisation can trust AI actions and protect their systems with confidence"

Roop Petersen, Director of Engineering at Auvik Networks, highlights Cat-MIP's role in promoting shared MCP terminology, which is pivotal for achieving consistent and reliable IT operations amidst evolving AI technologies.
