Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic notion for small business owners (SBOs) across the UK. It is quickly becoming an integral tool that is reshaping how they operate and expand. Recent research from VistaPrint highlights that over half of SBOs are currently utilising AI within their business processes.

The transition of AI from a novel concept to an essential business resource signifies its potential in driving efficiency, scaling operations, and uncovering new opportunities, dispelling previous perceptions of AI as a long-term threat. A significant portion, over a quarter, are employing AI daily, with an additional 45% using it a few times weekly.

Whether upgrading payment systems, reaching new markets, or refining marketing strategies, AI's integration is becoming standard practice. Among those yet to embrace AI, nearly 19% are contemplating its adoption soon.

AI's applications are diverse, with many SBOs leveraging it to support research and data analysis—two in five SBOs use AI to gain competitive insights against larger players. It's equally valuable in daily correspondence, with over a third using it for email writing and 29% applying it to customer service tasks. This technology streamlines processes, conserves time, and reduces costs.

The primary benefit reported by many SBOs is improved efficiency, cited by 34%. Other advantages include cost reduction at 14%, enhanced customer service at 11%, and streamlined decision-making at 9%. Collectively, 84% report a positive impact from AI, with sole traders noting particular effectiveness at 79%.
