AtlasEdge opens new sustainable data centre in Stuttgart

AtlasEdge launches STR001, expanding its German footprint with a sustainable and efficient data centre powered by renewable energy.

AtlasEdge, a prominent European data centre platform, has unveiled its latest data centre, STR001, in Stuttgart, marking the culmination of the first phase of its ambitious project. The initiative aims to provide 10,000m² of state-of-the-art space and a remarkable 20MW of power.

Situated in Böblingen, within the dynamic Stuttgart metropolitan region, STR001 is designed to cater to the burgeoning demand for scalable colocation solutions in one of Germany’s primary economic and industrial territories.

STR001 represents a leap in sustainable data center practices, being constructed with modular techniques that optimise resource use. Notably, the facility operates on 100% renewable energy, complying fully with the German Energy Efficiency Act (Energieeffizienzgesetz).

This establishment further fortifies AtlasEdge's footprint in Germany, where it now runs eight data centres. With AtlasEdge targeting the DACH region specifically due to its substantial industrial base and robust demand for capacity alongside increasing public investment, AtlasEdge aims for a significant role in Europe’s digital development phase.

Georg Raiser, Managing Director for DACH at AtlasEdge, emphasized the strategic function of STR001 in supporting businesses around Stuttgart. He added “Sustainability has been a core consideration throughout, fully aligned with our commitment to creating a truly sustainable digital society.”

Tesh Durvasula, CEO of AtlasEdge, reaffirmed “Germany, and the DACH region more broadly, is a cornerstone of our growth strategy, and this opening is another important step as we continue to invest in the next wave of European data centre markets.”

Key features of STR001 include:

  • 10,000m² of advanced data centre space
  • Capacity of up to 20MW
  • Operated using 100% renewable energy
  • Exceptional energy efficiency
  • Sustainable modular construction methods
  • Compliance with the German Energy Efficiency Act
  • Certifications: EN 50600 and ISO 27001 according to IT-Grundschutz
