Verne appoints Billy Nolan as Chief Development Officer

Verne, a leading provider of sustainably powered HPC data centers across the Nordics, has appointed Billy Nolan as Chief Development Officer (CDO).

In this newly created role, Nolan will lead the development of all of Verne’s future data center capacity, beginning with two major projects in the Helsinki region of Finland: a new 70 MW campus in Mäntsälä and the significant current expansion of the company’s existing campus in Vantaa.

Nolan will also spearhead the development of additional strategic sites across the Nordics, supporting Verne’s ambitious plans to scale its data center footprint to meet rising demand for High Performance Computing (HPC) and AI workloads.

Bringing nearly 30 years of experience to the role, Nolan has spent much of his career at the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) organisation, Atlantic Projects Company (APC), including seven years as CEO. During his tenure, he oversaw the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects worldwide.

At Verne, Nolan will leverage his expertise in strategy development, risk management, project planning, contract negotiation, and project execution to establish scalable, repeatable processes that ensure all developments are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.

“Billy’s track record of mobilising global teams and delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure projects is second to none,” said Dominic Ward, CEO, Verne. “He is a key addition to our executive leadership team and will play a pivotal role in scaling our Nordic data center platform to meet growing demand for sustainable, high-performance infrastructure.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining Verne at such a transformative moment in its growth journey,” said Nolan. “AI advancements are driving a critical need for new data center capacity, particularly in the Nordics. My focus will be on turning Verne’s bold vision into a reality, ensuring every expansion is executed to the highest standards of excellence and safety.”

Nolan also sits as an industry advisor on the MBA Board at the University of Limerick, where he has guest lectured at the Centre for Project Management. He holds an MBA from the same institution and is a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland.
