The Turing Trust receives 100 donated hard drives

The Turing Trust, the technology recycling and education charity founded by the family of Alan Turing, has received a donation of 100 hard drives from Seagate Technology, the global leader in data storage solutions. The hard drives will be installed in computers destined for Malawi to increase access to digital skills by students in primary and secondary schools across the country.

As the founder of modern computing, Turing believed technology is a tool for solving immense global challenges. Launched 15 years ago, the Turing Trust seeks to continue his legacy by using technology to connect the unconnected and educate students from the most disadvantaged communities. To date, the Trust has helped over 250,000 students worldwide to start learning IT skills for the first time.

The high-capacity hard drives donated by Seagate will be used by recipient schools and colleges in Malawi to integrate into recycled computers to store, secure, and back up e-learning materials to support teaching and give students the chance to learn life-changing digital skills.

Noah van der Linde, Donations Manager at the Turing Trust commented: "We are excited to receive Seagate's donation of hard drives to The Turing Trust. This generous contribution is crucial in enabling us to assemble complete PCs, thereby amplifying our support for beneficiaries both in the UK and internationally. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration for years to come."

Maarten Guijt, Vice President EMEA at Seagate, commented: “Digital literacy is crucial to fully participate in today’s global economy, but sadly access to technology is still out of reach for many remote and disadvantaged communities.  Every child should have the right to benefit from the power of technology and transform their lives for the better. This is why we are donating our high-performance hard drives to the Turing Trust today, and we hope to continue to do so in the future.”
