NAKIVO marks another major milestone as a leader in the data protection industry with the release of NAKIVO Backup & Replication v10.6. The latest version includes new functionality for protecting file shares on NAS devices and Windows / Linux file servers. The 10.6 release also expands the backup scope of Microsoft 365 and VMware vSphere environments, and adds a new ransomware-resilient deployment option with hardened AMI.

NAS Backup

Network shares, a common way of accessing data remotely, often contain large numbers of files, whether located on Windows/Linux machines or NAS systems. With NAS Backup, customers can back up entire file shares or specific folders within those shares to a variety of backup targets and recover files and folders to the location of their choice. The feature supports backup, backup copy and recovery of file shares using the NFS and SMB (CIFS) protocols.

Ransomware-Proof AMI

Backup data often becomes a target of ransomware attacks, rendering data protection efforts useless. NAKIVO Backup & Replication v10.6 is now available for deployment as a hardened Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to increase backup data resilience to ransomware. By deploying the solution as an AMI running Ubuntu Server, customers can use the local repository deployed with the AMI to create immutable backups. Immutability cannot be lifted, not even by a superuser. The backups stay protected from modification, deletion and encryption by ransomware for the time period specified.

Microsoft 365 Groups Backup

Microsoft 365 Groups is a cross-application feature that promotes teamwork and powers collaboration across Microsoft’s suite of business apps. The new functionality in NAKIVO Backup & Replication v10.6 allows customers to back up and recover group mailboxes and group sites and quickly restore workflows in case of accidental or malicious data loss.

Backup from HPE Nimble Storage Snapshots

Backup from regular VM snapshots can be time-consuming and resource-heavy in large infrastructures. The new feature provides a more efficient backup alternative for VMware vSphere VMs hosted on HPE Nimble Storage devices. By creating backups directly from Nimble Storage snapshots, customers have the flexibility of creating more recovery points while saving time and reducing the impact of data protection on production environments.

External Database Support

Version 10.6 supports using an external database for the solution’s main component instead of the built-in database. Switching to an external PostgreSQL database improves the solution’s reliability and performance as the infrastructure grows. This also allows the solution to handle higher loads and take advantage of more resources. The solution can also conduct a performance capability check of the current workload and recommend migrating to an external database if necessary.

Feature Availability

The 10.6 version of NAKIVO Backup & Replication is already available for download. Customers can either update their version of the solution or install the 15-day Free Trial.

“With NAKIVO Backup & Replication v10.6, we’re taking another major step towards helping our customers meet their data protection objectives,” says Bruce Talley, CEO of NAKIVO Inc. “With NAS Backup, we are excited to deliver a reliable file share backup solution, as the use of NAS and other file storage systems continues to grow across organisations.”
