Interxion: A Digital Realty Company has announced the qualification of HVO100, a synthetic fuel, for use in its data centre generators.

The first provisioning has been carried out on the PAR8 site, located in La Courneuve (93). This qualification was conducted with the technical support of the partners supplying the engines and generators.

HVO100 is a synthetic paraffinic diesel, made from 100% renewable items and certified as sustainable. Produced from vegetable oils or reprocessed waste, it is compliant with the European Union's renewable energy directive. HVO100 is a safe fossil fuel alternative and requires no engine modification before use.

This initiative is part of Digital Realty's global commitment to reduce its direct carbon emissions by 68% and its indirect emissions by 24% by 2030, based on the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Its French subsidiary is the first data centre operator in France to have achieved carbon neutrality by 2020 (scopes one and two), and the first company in the Digital Realty Group to use HVO100.

Fabrice Coquio, President of Interxion France, said: "Every action we take that helps to limit greenhouse gas emissions is important. We are aware that the use of our generators, even when reduced to a minimum, has an impact on the environment. By starting to supply our data centres with HVO100, we are taking another proactive step in implementing our strategy to reduce our carbon footprint, which is vital as we continue to lead the industry towards a more sustainable future."
