Proximity acquires regional edge data centre in Swindon

Further colocation capacity strategically located to Slough and Bristol.

Proximity Data Centres, a regional edge colocation data centre provider, has added a further site. Located in Swindon the 89,000 sq ft facility provides capacity for up to 2000 racks. A total of 7MW power is currently available with potential to increase to 14MW

With excellent road and rail infrastructure and easy access to digital fibre routes connecting London to Ireland and the USA, Proximity’s latest Tier 3 facility - Proximity Edge7 - is ideally positioned to serve businesses along and near to the M4 corridor. This includes the congested data centre conurbations of Slough and West London. It is also highly accessible to the major R&D hub at Harwell which is home to numerous research organisations in biotech, genome and space-tech.

“Our new Swindon edge data centre offers enterprise, research, content and cloud service provider organisations a compelling proposition,” said John Hall, Managing Director, Colocation at Proximity Data Centres.

“Proximity Edge7 has outstanding environmental and sustainability credentials combined with excellent connectivity in a strategic location. This makes it ideally suited for accommodating overflow and edge colocation business from the overcrowded data centre cluster in Slough as well as offering resilient low latency solutions to research organisations in the vicinity.”

Swindon joins Proximity’s expanding network of interconnected regional edge data centres which includes sites in Bridgend, Nottingham, Rugby, Liverpool, Chester Gates and Wakefield. The company expects to have 20 sites available within the next 12 months, all in proximity to major conurbation areas. This allows customers to ensure low latency and optimised data transit costs, in line with their growing requirements to maximise competitive advantage by moving data, applications and content closer to users.

Proximity Data Centres’ network of scalable edge facilities meets individual customer requirements, from specific regional data centre services through to multi-site rollouts. Built to Tier 3 industry standards and ISO 9001 Quality, 14001 Environmental and 27001 Security compliant, all data centre grid electricity is sourced from 100% renewable providers.
