Early in the pandemic, the team at COOLSPIRiT reached out to Chesterfield Hospital, a customer of COOLSPIRiT’s using Commvault Complete Data Protection, and asked if there was anything they could do to help.
While the frontline NHS staff were – and still are – focused on nursing patients back to full health, the IT staff spent much of the year working round the clock to ensure that employees working from home had the devices and support they needed, as well as providing any staff that suddenly needed to self-isolate with devices to keep them connected to their colleagues and patients.
So how could COOLSPIRiT help? The company offered to manage all of Chesterfield Hospital’s data protection needs, so that IT staff who were normally needed to manage backups and resolve data protection issues could spend more time keeping the rest of the organisation functioning. There’s also been more opportunity for IT teams to focus on new projects, for example apps for cancer care or patient support – they were able to get these moving when they otherwise wouldn’t have time.
With this initiative a success, COOLSPIRiT offered the same free service to other NHS organisations in the local area, many of whom jumped at the opportunity, including Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Managing Director at COOLSPIRiT, Damon Robertson, comments: “It is a good feeling being able to give something back. While we might not be making PPE or sanitiser liquid, we are taking some of the pressure off those hard-working frontline teams and allowing them to focus on more pressing issues.”
COOLSPIRiT started offering this assistance in March 2020, and plans to continue this for at least the first six months of 2021, as a way to give back to the NHS heroes who are saving lives throughout the local community.
