Research from Paessler AG, the IT monitoring specialist, highlights the biggest challenges facing IT departments across the globe.
Paessler surveyed IT administrators worldwide, revealing that energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental concerns are high on the agenda for IT professionals in the UK. In fact seven in 10 (70%) of respondents agreed that it is IT’s responsibility to ensure their organisation is sustainable and environmentally friendly, ranking ahead of the c-suite (52%).
When asked about the biggest challenge they will face in the next decade, four in 10 (43%) of IT admins in the UK selected energy efficiency, significantly higher than the global average of 27%. In light of this revelation, IT staff were asked how their organisation would be equipped to improve energy efficiency. In response, four in 10 (44%) are only using the required hardware and over a third (36%) of IT staff say they are making use of smart building technology.
While it is positive to see this kind of technology being included in the technology mix, worryingly, nearly a third (32%) of respondents aren’t thinking about how they address this challenge at all. This figure goes up even higher (37%) when looking at global responses.

Staff within the modern enterprise have an important part to play as the role of technology becomes more strategic in this area. As they navigate new ways to improve the sustainability of the business, monitoring can play a key role in assessing where power consumption savings can be made and equipment maximised.”
Amid increasing digitalisation Paessler continues to look for ways to improve opportunities for its customers to use data monitoring to optimise the efficiency of their business. It is currently working on a prototype to help organisations across various industries, including IoT and IIOT scenarios to do just that.
