Skyscanner halves time spent on network monitoring with Paessler

PRTG Network Monitor automates mundane monitoring tasks and enables Skyscanner to keep the site up and running, seamlessly.

Skyscanner, the global travel search site and app, has cut the time it spends on network monitoring by more than 50% following the introduction of PRTG from Paessler.

The solution, which tracks data from more than 6,000 PRTG sensors across Skyscanner’s global IT infrastructure, is being used to automate the more mundane monitoring tasks to free up the IT experts’ time to focus on more strategic areas. These sensors are crucial in reducing downtime on Skyscanner’s internal network, ensuring employees are able to work without interruption.

“We’re an international company and, as such, it is vital that we have a reliable technology infrastructure in place in order to deliver the best service that we can. Paessler’s technology has enabled us to do this. We are now able to identify potential issues before they become problems, enabling the right person, in the right time zone to take action,” said Barry Kelly, Systems Engineer at Skyscanner.

The global travel search site implemented PRTG by building it into AWS using CloudFormation and PowerShell. This allows Skyscanner to measure end user experiences from each of its offices, to each of its services. Given Skyscanner has no one dedicated IT team internally, this tool gives them the peace of mind that the sensors will be monitoring all switches, alerting the IT experts to any problems – and saving them from the mundane task of monitoring everything themselves.

“Skyscanner has a clear mission – to put its customers at the heart of everything it does. Skyscanner knows how important it is that internal services run seamlessly. This ensures a frictionless website, frees up employees and ultimately increases sales.

“The best networks are the ones where potential issues can be easily identified and addressed before they become major challenges. The customer doesn’t know what goes on behind the scenes, but with PRTG we can provide a seamless end-user experience. Together, we’re empowering Skyscanner to become the master of its network,” he added.
