Founded in 1966 with the purpose of creating profit to support public good, Paf is an international gaming operator with over 400 online games including slots, casino, poker, betting, bingo and lotteries. The company group also operates a large physical gaming operation with about 1,500 slot machines and 55 gaming tables on cruise ships in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and on Šland.
In order to continue to manage their vast and increasingly distributed network while continuing to scale their business to deliver on their core mission, Paf needed to embark on an IT modernization journey. The Paf team realized early on in the process that in order to make for a seamless and smooth transition, they would need to invest in a strategic partnership with a proven machine data analytics leader to help consolidate their existing tools and give them the ability to plug into both on-premises and AWS services, such as EC2, Lambda, S3, Amazon VPC Flow Logs and CloudTrail throughout the process. When it became apparent that their current log analytics and monitoring tool would not suffice, they turned to Sumo Logic’s cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS platform as their solution of choice.
“Migrating from on-premises to the cloud is overwhelming for even the most seasoned IT team, and we knew we didn’t have the infrastructure or bandwidth to manage the entire process from start-to-finish ourselves,” said Lars-Goran Hakamo, security architect, Paf. “That’s why we wanted to partner with an automated SaaS-based solution that would support our hybrid infrastructure during our cloud migration journey, correlate logs and metrics data to empower our DevOps teams to move faster, and support security and compliance regulations such as GDPR. Sumo Logic not only checked all of those boxes, but also became a trusted advisor to our technical teams and executive leadership.”
With Sumo Logic, Paf has been able to analyze log and metric data, perform root-cause analysis, and monitor apps and infrastructure in real time, allowing Hakamo and his team to focus on what really matters: delivering more innovative and high priority projects and providing the ultimate online customer experience. Additionally, Sumo Logic enables Paf to maintain specific security regulations and privacy standards such as the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
“Sumo Logic has truly set the industry gold standard and has been an instrumental part of our IT modernization journey,” said Hakamo. “The rich visibility and data insights we get from dashboards across our applications and AWS infrastructure are unbelievable, and second to none with other solutions we evaluated. We can’t wait to expand the Sumo Logic service across our business so that we can have more teams standardized on the platform.”
Today, around 150 developers, customer support representatives and systems-operations admins use Sumo Logic primarily to relay some of the company’s key performance and business metrics to their executives vis-à-vis custom dashboards.
“Many organizations are faced with a similar situation as Paf’s, where their future success depends on their ability to modernize their current on-premises architectures for more flexible and scalable cloud-based solutions,” said James Campanini, GM and VP, EMEA, Sumo Logic. “At Sumo Logic we’re the data stewards for our customers, and our biggest goal is to help ease the cloud migration journey by arming them with visibility and continuous intelligence across their application stack so they know exactly what’s going on in their infrastructure during these massive and complex transitions. Paf relies on us to handle the data piece so that they can focus on doing what they do best: delivering the best online gaming experience for their users.”
