Spectra Logic and Komprise have announced that Komprise Intelligent Data Management software is now certified to seamlessly operate with Spectra’s BlackPearl® Converged Storage System. This joint solution delivers a new way to help organisations better manage their exponential data growth as well as their IT budgets by identifying and transparently archiving massive amounts of inactive or cold data from expensive primary storage to Komprise Data Management software and BlackPearl. This frees up prime storage space for working data, enabling secure, long-term preservation of all other digital assets.
With a simple point and click interface, Komprise Data Management software quickly scans large data sets, pinpoints and analyses inactive data to determine cost savings, and moves it to the BlackPearl. Without any changes to user or application access, this joint Komprise and Spectra solution enables organisations with large data sets to save up to 70 percent of their cost per terabyte as well as reduce overall data management time and complexities by locating less used data and moving it effortlessly to affordable secondary storage options. Moved data is accessible as files from the source with all the NTFS permissions and file hierarchies intact, even though they are now stored as objects or on tape.
Spectra’s BlackPearl system is an object storage gateway to long-term storage, including tape, disk and cloud. With BlackPearl’s policy engine, users can choose the appropriate storage type to meet their cost and access time requirements. The Spectra solution solves the problem of costly and complex approaches to digital preservation by combining multiple interfaces and storage targets into a simple and affordable system designed for multiple workflows.
