Inaugurated by the Minister of the Economy, Mr. Manuel Caldeira Cabral, the data centre will be used, in addition to REN, by the EDP group and the NOS group, clients of RENTELECOM, REN group’s telecommunications network operator.
The data centre occupies an area of about 5,000 m2 and includes 1,200 m2 of technical rooms dedicated to the housing of the equipment that will host the country’s most diverse and critical information and telecommunications systems.
The data centre will be neutral from the perspective of communications operators, and each of the three companies using the data centre will have separate and isolated technical areas.
Given the high criticality of this infrastructure for REN group and for its clients, the concept design of the data centre was subject to review by the Uptime Institute, the entity which verifies and certifies the level of resilience and high energy efficiency of this type of facility worldwide.
After construction was completed, the data centre was subject to thorough commissioning tests and trials to attest its level of resilience to failures, having received the Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute, making it an infrastructure of reference and technological excellence in Portugal.
