Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust has selected managed communications specialist Maintel to provide an industry-leading unified communications solution as part of its digital transformation strategy.

Maintel’s ICON Communicate will allow 3,000 staff to benefit from a fully managed cloud telephony solution. The service will provide a seamless communications platform that aims to speed up decision making processes whilst making cost savings to reinvest in frontline services.

With the Trust’s hospitals 16 miles apart, medical staff will be able to easily keep in regular contact with colleagues across both sites. Each member of staff will be reachable on a single number, regardless of device and location. Clinical staff can move between locations and still be instantly contactable via voice, messaging and video.

In addition, with Maintel’s directory and rota management system, operators and other staff will be able to instantly know which team members are on shift and where they are, enabling them to contact the right person in a team for patient updates instead of using paper-based systems.

To secure the five-year, ?1.5m deal, Maintel beat competition from numerous suppliers on the Crown Commercial framework. The company was selected for its extensive expertise in delivering communications services to the health sector, and in transitioning trusts from legacy platforms to managed communications solutions whilst ensuring no disruption to critical telephone services.

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust CIO, Joanna Smith, said: “Moving our telephony to the Maintel cloud is an industry-leading move. Not only does it have the potential to improve communication within the Trust and help us to deliver better care, it will have a significant impact on telephony costs, both in terms of capital expenditure and telecommunications expenses.”

Maintel’s CEO Eddie Buxton said, “With the cost pressures the public sector is currently facing, we’re committed to helping healthcare trusts make essential savings and improve patient care through innovative communications solutions.

“The project with Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is testament to both our team’s skills and Maintel’s vision to continually deliver leading-edge technology solutions that enable the public sector to become more efficient and better serve its customers.”

Maintel’s ICON portfolio delivers flexible managed cloud services across unified communications, connectivity, mobile and security which take the complexity and risk out of communications. This suite of fully managed service delivers highly available, secure applications to its customers, managed and monitored 24/7 by Maintel’s expert teams.
