SolarWinds has introduced the beta availability of AppOptics, SolarWinds’ next-generation application performance management (APM) solution. AppOptics combines the proven distributed tracing function of TraceView with the infrastructure monitoring and real-time analytics capabilities of Librato®, delivering a powerful, unified monitoring platform for complex modern applications. AppOptics is designed to address the challenges associated with disparate monitoring solutions for distributed application performance and critical infrastructure metrics.

AppOptics is the latest addition to the larger SolarWinds Cloud[RS1] ® Software as a Service (SaaS) portfolio, which empowers developers, operations engineers, DevOps practitioners, and IT professionals to better manage, optimize, and troubleshoot the full stack at every layer, from the infrastructure and application layers through the end-user experience. Also included in this portfolio are Pingdom®, Pingdom Server Monitor[ZJ2] , Papertrail, and the new AppOptics (beta[EM(3] [JB4] ).[RS5]

The era of cloud and digitalization is driving exponential application growth—applications are now the prime medium by which customers experience a brand, making uptime and end-user experience more critical than ever,” said Christoph Pfister, executive vice president, products, SolarWinds. “Still, application and infrastructure monitoring often take place in separate silos which is counterproductive to the remediation process. We designed AppOptics to provide comprehensive visibility needed for faster application-centric troubleshooting. Now, customers can solve problems and improve performance across the application stack, all in an easy-to-use, as-a-service platform that delivers powerful results.”

Powerful Monitoring for Modern Applications
As today’s applications become increasingly distributed and difficult to manage, the need to leverage disparate monitoring tools for APM and infrastructure metrics creates added complexity and often delays time to resolution. AppOptics offers customers a unified user experience through a simple, modular platform capable of monitoring applications, infrastructure, or both.

Key features of the new AppOptics (beta) include:

·       Trace and visualize your application bottlenecks. AppOptics provides a real-time view into traditional and distributed applications by collecting both high-fidelity metrics and detailed transaction traces across the entire application topology. This powerful monitoring capability enables easy traversal from visualizing trends to deep root cause analysis.
·       Broad APM language support with auto instrumentation. AppOptics monitors a broad set of languages and frameworks for immediate visibility leveraging simple auto instrumentation. No manual instrumentation or configuration is required to get distributed tracing and detailed metrics.
·       Easy-to-use infrastructure monitoring leverages large open community.  AppOptics infrastructure monitoring is simple and easy to use. The AppOptics agent is supported by a large open community with many contributors. In addition to numerous built-in integrations, customers can extend the solution to meet their infrastructure monitoring needs or leverage the large number of integrations that the community already offers today. All application and infrastructure metrics are published in real-time and are available in our advanced dashboards or alerting system.
·       Converged dashboards, alerting, and management for APM and infrastructure monitoring. AppOptics removes the silo between APM and infrastructure metrics, allowing users to combine APM and infrastructure monitoring metrics in a single view and set advanced alerts. Together, this unified approach to APM and infrastructure monitoring streamlines troubleshooting efforts and drastically improves time to resolution.
