Safe Host launches hyperscale data centre in Switzerland

Safe Host is inaugurating its third data centre in Switzerland, located in the canton of Vaud.  Construction began in 2014 and the facility can scale to a capacity of 40MW.

The facility is being deployed in 2,000sqm/4MW phases up to a maximum critical load capacity of 40MW.  The first phase will be ready for customer occupancy during the summer of this year. The data centre will be connected both globally and nationally by all major telecom operators becoming the central hub of data hosting in Switzerland.

The facility is purpose-built to address the growth in data storage and data processing.  Customers will benefit not only from the built-in redundancy of electrical and cooling systems but also from the concentration of telecom operators and the ability to lower the carbon footprint of their IT systems. The project was executed in close cooperation with national and regional energy authorities to ensure that the site is in-line with helping Switzerland maintain its energy security goals set by the Federal Government, known as Vision 2050.

"We are experiencing a tremendous growth in global data consumption and Safe Host is keen to establish Switzerland as one of the key global locations for companies to locate their IT systems," said G?rard Sikias, CEO of Safe Host. "By leveraging our 14 years of data centre experience, we are best placed to provision and operate this state-of-the-art data centre for our customers."

The Vaud facility brings the total number of Safe Host's Swiss data centre to three, the other two being Geneva and Avenches, near Bern.  The Geneva facility, launched in 2002, is currently running at 75% utilization with the Avenches facility, launched in 2016, rapidly filling up with customers.
