Riverbed teams up with Verizon

Secure, reliable and scalable cloud solution helps enterprises deliver applications to end users in a high-performance environment.

Riverbed Technology is joining forces with Verizon Enterprise Solutions to deliver an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect Bundle solution to support hybrid architecture deployments. With this solution, enterprise customers can connect their branch offices and data centers to AWS environments through managed, secure and optimized network services.

Announced at AWS re:Invent 2016 in Las Vegas, this AWS Direct Connect Bundle combines Riverbed’s industry-leading SteelHead? WAN optimization solution, Verizon’s Secure Cloud Interconnect and Virtual Network Services solutions, and AWS Direct Connect solution into a single offering.

As enterprises continue to drive cloud-first strategies, organizations with multiple locations ranging from headquarters to branch offices need to ensure that all of their employees have secure, fast, consistent network access, regardless of their location and device. The increasing mobility of employees, combined with the rise of the hybrid architectures, where applications and data are hosted in both the data center and the cloud, has complicated network traffic and application delivery, adding strain to the traditional network.

As a result, more businesses are transitioning to the cloud to leverage the capacity and cost economics of Internet broadband and complement highly reliable multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) based networks. According to a recent IDC study, wide area networking (WAN) optimization is an increasingly critical element in the realization of hybrid architecture environments for enterprises worldwide.[1] This provides high performance for all applications, whether hosted on-premises or in the cloud.

“Riverbed has a long history of teaming with service providers such as Verizon to provide highly-scalable networking solutions for our joint enterprise customers,” said Phil Harris, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider Segment Vertical and Strategy at Riverbed. “Working with cloud services providers like AWS is a natural extension of these solutions and meets the needs of today’s hybrid networking environments, allowing businesses to support their digital transformation initiatives.”

Verizon’s Virtual Network Services (VNS) and Secure Cloud Interconnect solution enable enterprise customers to leverage universal customer premises equipment (uCPE) to provide managed connectivity to their employees over a secure, efficient and high performance network. Implemented as a virtual network function (VNF) within Verizon’s VNS and Secure Cloud Interconnect environments, Riverbed’s SteelHead? WAN optimization accelerates application performance in the cloud, addressing both bandwidth and latency issues, to help improve end-user experience and productivity. SteelHead accelerates access for users from virtually any location and speeds up the migration to the cloud.

“With this offering, Verizon and Riverbed are furthering their collaboration to deliver joint solutions that businesses require to realize the full potential of digital transformation through better cost economics, agility and flexibility,” said Shawn Hakl, vice president of networking and innovation, Verizon. “With our new solution set, enterprises will be able to balance agility, performance, cost and security necessitated by the growth of mobile-to-cloud applications and the Internet of Things.”
