maincubes expands data center in Amsterdam

Data center operator maincubes is completely modernizing the data center it took over in May in Schiphol/Amsterdam. The aim is to update the data center with state-of-the-art technology within a few weeks, during ongoing operations, and to prepare previously unused data center space for use by further customers and existing customers who need additional space. The modernization of the maincubes data center started on October 21 and is expected to be completed in March 2017.

Until May 2016 around 1,000 square meters of the available data center space were actively used by customers. The high demand from local companies, as well as international corporations who want to expand their presence in the EU, is what prompted maincubes to expand the area to cover around 2,000 square meters, modernize it and equip it with high-performance components. In the long term up to 4,500 square meters of space will be available.
The expansion of the data center does not only include the activation of previously unused space. Another important part of the modernization is the consolidation of the data center space, which will be increased by means of a greater power density rising from 0.4 kW to up to 1.8 kW per square meter. In accordance with the demands in terms of size and performance, maincubes will install the necessary power supply, cable trays, cooling components and more efficient technology for the internet connection.
Latest cooling technology creates higher power density and saves costs
The cooling technology utilized determines the maximum kW density per square meter in the data center and the costs that customers must invest in addition to the power consumption of their IT components. At all its data centers, maincubes pursues the strategy of providing customers with maximum data center performance using the latest cooling technology, saving costs in the process. The objective of the data center in Schiphol/Amsterdam is to achieve above average PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) values of less than 1.55, significantly decreasing the power costs of cooling.
