CenturyLink achieves with Carbon Trust Standard accreditation in UK data centres

CenturyLink has completed the re-certification process with the Carbon Trust Standard, re-affirming its commitment to reducing carbon consumption across its data centre estate. Previously certified in 2014, the CenturyLink team is continuing its drive to use energy efficient infrastructure and pursue best practice for clean energy consumption.

“CenturyLink is committed to an ever-improving cycle of energy efficiency across the data centre estate,” says Steve Weiner, senior product manager, colocation, CenturyLink. “We are dedicated to both an overall reduction in the amount of carbon consumed by our facilities as well as continuing to show innovation in the area of data center service delivery.”

CenturyLink’s dedication to the Carbon Trust Standard is underlined by initiatives such as the installation of ambient air chillers in its UK data centres. This has reduced power consumption in one data centre by 275,000 kWH and is projected to cut yearly power costs by ?400,000. In addition, CenturyLink has an ongoing commitment to, and investment in, other nationally and globally recognised standards, including Energy Star certification and the Better Buildings Challenge, which aims to reduce non-IT energy consumption in US datacenters by 25% by 2023.

“CenturyLink is committed to its customers and the environment itself, so we are very proud to have been re-certified and build our relationship with the Carbon Trust. We firmly believe that it is possible to provide best-of-breed services and pursue an ever-more energy efficient data center strategy,” concludes Weiner.
