Extra zing for Zettabox?

Zettabox, the European provider of cloud-based storage, collaboration and big-file transfer for enterprises, has completed its first external round of financing. The company did not disclose the valuation but said funds raised would be used to accelerate sales and marketing.

The investment round includes Henrik Kraft, former head of Technology and Communications investments in Europe for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co LP. Kraft has a lengthy, successful investment track record in Europe’s tech industry.

“I’m very excited about Zettabox and its potential in the cloud services market. It has a unique position – providing not just a European solution to meet EU enterprise requirements but also a technology that provides store, sync, share and collaborate technology for companies anywhere they need to host the solution, including on premise,” said Kraft.

“And Zettabox was founded by an unusually seasoned executive team, with deep experience in both the US and European tech industries. I am confident Zettabox will prove a strong challenger to the US alternatives in the rapidly-growing cloud-services sector,” said Kraft.

Also investing in this round is Victor Bischoff, a highly regarded European financier and investor in tech and biotech startups. Bischoff has worked with James Kinsella, Zettabox Co-Founder and CEO, in other European tech ventures.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Henrik and Victor, who have backed some of Europe’s most successful technology startups. They are both strategic investors with insight and a passion for the industry who will be very helpful as we build partnerships with tech and telecoms players across the world,” said Kinsella.

During his 25-year tech career, Kinsella has launched a number of successful network services companies including Europe’s largest cloud infrastructure company, Interoute. Before moving to Europe in 2000, he was a Microsoft executive, and served as president of the MSNBC franchise at the global software company.
