Data acceleration and self-configuring infrastructure optimized network (SCION) vendor - Bridgeworks has launched the PORTrockIT for IBM Spectrum Protect, enabling data transfer speeds of up to 210x faster, across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
IBM Spectrum Protect is the cornerstone of many large companies' data protection strategies, offering a wide range of backup and recovery options for all kinds of storage environments. The Bridgeworks technology will work alongside the IBM technology to mitigate latency, reduce packet loss and dramatically accelerate data movement for IBM Spectrum Protect customers.
As companies increasingly see the value of transferring data from their main data center to a remote site, transfers over the WAN can run into difficulties caused by distance between sites, latency (delay), packet loss and risks to data security. For a business, slow transfer rates dramatically increase the risk of overrunning windows and affect the performance of other business-critical systems.
Bridgeworks PORTrockIT is the next generation of WAN transfer technology, using AI (machine intelligence) to optimize and maximize performance of existing infrastructure. It will assist customers running IBM Spectrum Protect, solving latency and packet loss problems by significantly mitigating the effects of both latency and packet loss on WAN backup, replication and recovery jobs.
David Trossell of Bridgeworks Ltd said:
"With a sub 30 minute install of PORTrockIT, we were able to run a number of rigorous performance tests for IBM Spectrum Protect Customers. Even in the most challenging scenario we tested, with 360ms of latency and 1% packet loss, PORTrockIT was able to complete data transfers 210 times faster than a traditional approach.
The combination of IBM Spectrum Protect and PORTrockIT is an example of technologies working smarter together, resulting in cost and time optimization at multiple levels for our customers. For a business, recovery time and recovery point objectives are improved dramatically, keeping systems and data protected and available when the business needs it."
