“Effective power management is crucial in today’s demanding IT environments,” said Matthieu Jaeger, Eaton EMEA Product Manager for ePDUs, “but, until now, providing flexible power distribution in smaller racks has been problematic. Our new 1U and 2U ePDUs offer a convenient and comprehensive solution for these applications. They incorporate the same innovative features that have made our latest 0U ePDUs so popular, including plug retention for standard IEC plugs, which prevents accidental disconnection of the plugs. We’re confident that these new ePDUs will eliminate a lot of rack integration issues for IT professionals.”
The new ePDUs provide intelligent power distribution solutions for applications where racks are not sufficiently high to allow the use of 0U ePDUs. They are also ideally suited for use in wall-mount enclosures where no rear access is possible. All the new ePDUs have a plug retention feature and are suitable for operation at up to 60?C, allowing them to be used in high-temperature IT environments. Basic and Metered models are available now, with Switched, Metered Outlet and Managed models to be introduced to the range later this year.
In order to help minimise network costs, up to eight ePDUs can be daisy-chained from a single IP port and IP address. They also feature hot-swap capability for the control modules, which means that the modules can be exchanged or updated without interrupting the supply of power to the loads. Metered versions of the new ePDUs offer ± 1% billing-grade accuracy, making it easy to track energy usage. The new range supports mass configuration and mass upgrading, reducing administration time and improving overall efficiency.
Paired with Eaton’s virtualisation-ready Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) software, the new ePDUs can be easily monitored and managed from a virtualisation dashboard. When used with optional sensors such as the Eaton Environmental Monitoring Probe (EPM), the ePDUs can trigger environmental alerts such as excessive temperature or humidity and initiate disaster recovery policies, including the automatic migration of virtual servers to a backup site or the graceful shutdown of the system to protect mission critical loads.
Customised versions of ePDUs can also be supplied to meet specific user requirements. As all of the ePDUs are manufactured in the EMEA region, prompt deliveries and fast responses to customer requests are guaranteed.
