Resiliency upgrade

Actifio has introduced a major update to Actifio Resiliency Director™, its complete solution for non-disruptive application recovery and test environment creation from the data centre to the Cloud.

Actifio Resiliency Director works in conjunction with Actifio CDS™ and Actifio Sky™ to deliver complete resiliency in the cloud and enable enterprises to restore critical business functionality faster and cheaper than previously possible, orchestrating compute, network, and data at a cloud service provider or enterprise disaster recovery site and validating the result.

Resiliency Director addresses many of the data recovery challenges faced by today's enterprises, both during, and after the Disaster Recovery (DR) process. Traditionally, managing the DR process has involved multiple manual processes across different systems and tools, creating a level of operational complexity that makes regular DR and DR testing virtually impossible.

DataBank, a leading provider of enterprise-class business solutions for data centre, managed services, and cloud in the Midwestern United States, is leveraging Actifio's Resiliency Director to create a robust, reliable, and cost-effective set of DR capabilities for its clients. "A sound disaster recovery plan is key to many of our enterprise clients, but the cost and complexity of actually implementing one properly can be far too prohibitive," said Bryan Porter, Chief Technical Officer at DataBank, Ltd. "In some cases, companies can be overly burdened with inefficient legacy technologies which are no longer up to the task. With Actifio's Resiliency Director, we are able to offer our clients a robust and flexible solution that allows them to both test and run DR however they need, without over-taxing them on time and resources. Clients are impressed with how well it works."

Steven Hill, Senior Analyst of 451 Research, said, "The role of traditional data backup is changing, and today's enterprise businesses are looking to keep mission critical application services—as well as their data—accessible at all times. The complicated tasks involved in recovering from disasters can be cumbersome, manual and slow; and makes testing for disaster recovery an infrequent and nerve-wracking process. Automating recovery operations is the key to making DR plans consistent, verifiable and reliably executable, and Actifio's Resiliency Director offers enterprises the simplicity of one-click, fully-automated DR. This makes it easier to test DR monthly, or as often as needed to provide peace of mind knowing that your applications, and your business, remain resilient."

Using Actifio Resiliency Director, today's enterprises are able to dramatically improve application availability and resiliency, eliminating errors that are often introduced while undertaking manual tasks to recover applications. Because the disaster recovery process – from testing to actual execution — can be thoroughly automated, the time spent on recovering large numbers of applications and virtual machines (VMs) is collapsed from days to minutes. As a result, Actifio helps companies focus on managing their applications, not only their recoveries.

The advancements made in Actifio Resiliency Director further reduce the number of manual tasks system admins need to undergo during and after DR, streamlining the process and making it even more simple and easy to ensure robust protection is in place.

What's New?
The latest version of Actifio Resiliency Director, version 6.2, includes the following improvements:

  • Security Made Simple: Users are no longer limited to one "admin" to manage everything. Resiliency Director now allows multiple admin roles to be created and defined, meaning different users can do specific operations based on their role. This is especially useful for large enterprises and service providers who typically have multiple users and roles.
  • Operational Simplicity: Resiliency Director now allows a single recovery plan to be applied to multiple resource pools and port groups, significantly reducing the number of recovery plans that need to be created.
  • More Automation: Multi NIC IP customisation allows a VM with multiple NICs to be customised with new IPs for each NIC during the creation of a DR plan. This eradicates the manual process of assigning IPs to each additional NIC.
  • More OS Platform Support: The new version adds support for a wider range of Linux and Windows OS versions, in addition to supporting VMs with localised OS versions.
  • Automatic Upgrades: Resiliency Director users now have access to self-service upgrades to any future versions, reducing upgrade costs and simplifying the process.

"This latest version of Actifio Resiliency Director is just another example of how Actifio is continuing to pioneer the transformation of data management for today's enterprises," said Ash Ashutosh, CEO and Founder, Actifio. "Data is the lifeblood of the modern enterprise and is only going to increase in importance, so ensuring it is recoverable in the event of an application failure is critical. The improvements to Resiliency Director make it quicker, cheaper, and easier for businesses to guard against disaster, giving them invaluable piece of mind that their important data is only ever a few clicks away, even when things don't go to plan."
