SSE switches on 30 new exchanges

SSE Enterprise Telecoms' network services are now available at a further 30 BT exchanges located across the UK. This latest expansion adds to SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ existing 13,700km, 232 Point of Presence (PoP) UK-wide fibre network, and is part of the operator’s ongoing commitment to offer a highly resilient networking alternative to enterprises located in all of the UK’s key business districts.

Dubbed ‘Edge 2’, the latest initiative provides businesses located in a further 50,000 prime business postcodes with easy access to SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ network. The 30 BT exchanges now live are: Aberdeen Denburn, Aylesbury, Birmingham Midland, Bolton, Bradford, Chelmsford, Colchester, Darlington, Doncaster, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Douglas, Harrogate, High Wycombe, Inverness, Ipswich, Leicester Montford, Lincoln, Lochnagar, Loughborough, Maidstone, Newcastle, Norwich, Oldham, Oxford, Peterborough, Rochdale, Sheffield Attercliffe, Sheffield, Stockton and York.
A further four BT exchanges, located in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Wokingham and Farnborough, will be added by the end of Q2 2016.
Edge 2 is the second phase of SSE Enterprise Telecom’s ‘Project Edge’ network expansion programme. The first phase, announced in November 2013, brought 54 new exchanges on to SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ network, serving 200,000 business postcodes primarily in the London area.  With today’s announcement of 30 additional PoPs, and by interconnecting with other leading network service providers in the UK, SSE Enterprise Telecoms has initiated full UK-wide coverage. Edge 2 enables SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ customers to purchase additional Ethernet services directly and in doing so, benefit from its reputable delivery service wrap and highly resilient, extensive national network.
“In 2015, we experienced a 250 percent increase in orders of our Ethernet services, demonstrating the success of our ongoing network expansion,” said Colin Sempill, Managing Director, SSE Enterprise Telecoms. “With 30 new exchanges now live as part of Edge 2, and more to come within the next few months, organisations can now benefit from even greater access to our high quality Ethernet services, regardless of where they are in the country.”
The new PoPs are now available via SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ online price comparison engine, LIVEQUOTE, which compares and analyses the Ethernet quotes from major UK carriers as well as SSE Enterprise Telecoms. The tool enables SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ partners to find and provision network services for their customers in real-time at the most cost-effective price possible.
SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ diverse Ethernet customer base includes Brewin Dolphin, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc (MUFG), Marston’s Telecoms, Jisc and the University of Law.
