Italy's leading telecommunication and ICT service provider is using the scalable WDM transport solution to address the enormous bandwidth demand of its residential and business customers. The solution delivers capacity of up to 100Gbit/s to every major Italian city and the ADVA FSP 3000's modular design ensures that the infrastructure is ready for further growth. ADVA Optical Networking's technology is integral to the new dynamic architecture and flexible service routing, which reduces Telecom Italia's planning time and operational costs. By simplifying and accelerating the process of rolling out new services, Telecom Italia is opening up new revenue streams for its many enterprise clients.

"Our business clients expect service agility and our residential customers want to be able to stream video whenever they choose," said Andrea Calvi, head of transport and data networks, Telecom Italia. "Now with the ADVA FSP 3000 our network is bringing ultra-high capacity connectivity to the home and the enterprise. We're also pleased with how easy and smooth the process has been. From testing to implementation, our relationship with ADVA Optical Networking's team has proved to be as vital as the technology. We've worked closely with their engineers at every stage, from laboratory trials in Germany and Italy to collaborating on the fast deployment. That's helped to ensure that any issues are quickly dealt with and high quality is maintained throughout."

The deployment of the ADVA FSP 3000's multi-degree ROADM technology creates a next-generation architecture, enabling Telecom Italia to offer fully flexible networking. The process of rolling out new services is radically simplified so that new applications can be implemented whenever customers demand. It enables Telecom Italia to optimize their network operations and boost efficiency and, with the dynamic flexibility of ROADMs, traffic demands are met by boosting the busiest network areas automatically. It's also a future-proof solution as the ADVA FSP 3000 easily scales to accommodate demand for even higher bandwidth. What's more, the new network has the capacity to deliver encrypted services. As more businesses require total security, Telecom Italia will be able to leverage the ADVA FSP 3000 to encrypt information on the physical layer for complete protection of mission-critical data.

"This has been an exciting project right from the start. Telecom Italia has a passion for delivering more to its customers. It believes deeply in harnessing the most advanced technology available and we're proud to be the first vendor to enable them to transmit 100Gbit/s in their metropolitan networks," commented Marcello Forti, VP, sales Italy, ADVA Optical Networking. "We're also delighted that Telecom Italia was so impressed with our efficiency. Our advanced logistics model ensured equipment was available precisely when and where it was required, helping us to dramatically reduce the time needed for deployment. The other key component was the excellent relationships we've built with Telecom Italia's team. Working closely together we've been able to iron out issues and ensure the highest quality at every stage. Our teamwork with Telecom Italia has empowered us to create metro networks that will meet the needs of Italian businesses today and in years to come."
