Clavister, in collaboration with its partner Artesyn Embedded Technologies, has launched the Centellis® Security Edition platform. The Artesyn platform utilises the Clavister solution to enable carriers to dramatically lower the cost of developing, deploying and running virtual and cloud-based security gateways.
The Centellis SE platform is designed to protect telecom networks from malicious threats, while providing secure access to subscriber services. It combines multiple security applications for LTE, packet core and mobile data networks on a single platform to provide carriers and integrators with a unified carrier-grade solution. The solution can be deployed either on a dedicated open, standards-based hardware blade or combined with other virtual network functions (VNFs) in a single system or network node.
The platform will offer telecom providers savings of up to 65 percent of capital and 67 percent of operating expenditure, when compared with rack mount servers, by using fewer servers and combining multiple virtual applications in a single system, without impacting on performance.
Jim Carlsson, CEO of Clavister, commented: “Our market-leading technology offers world class performance at an extremely competitive price point, and has enabled Artesyn to rapidly develop a carrier grade security platform that provides telecom network operators with an advanced, robust security solution, to protect their infrastructure. This will enable Artesyn’s customers to secure their networks against attacks quickly, while seeing a significant cost saving compared to rack-based solutions. Working with Artesyn we have been able to combine our joint expertise to deliver a much needed solution to the market in a very short amount of time, highlighting the real value that the collaboration is delivering to the market.”
The Centellis SE platform offers scalable firewall routing throughput from 100 Gbps to 1.2 Tbps and scalable IPsec throughput from 50 Gbps to 600 Gbps. It is designed to protect high-speed networks by enabling applications such as the LTE security gateway (LTE/SEG), evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and perimeter firewall. Load-balanced switching, enabled by Artesyn’s FlowPilot™ software, ensures optimal use of the available resources and makes virtual application deployment even more efficient.
“It is critical that carrier networks are secured against attack and interception,” said Todd Wynia, vice president of communications products, Artesyn Embedded Technologies. “Operators can now do this by provisioning virtualized network security zones quickly, flexibly and simply using our Centellis Security Edition. With a minimal software footprint and extremely low resource requirements, it is an optimal solution for all types of virtual and cloud-based network security solutions.”
The solution is a result of the collaboration between Clavister and Artesyn that was announced earlier this year, and integrated Clavister’s virtualized security software onto Artesyn’s computing hardware, realising secure platforms of unprecedented performance and capacity. The relationship also committed the two companies to collaborating on joint research projects looking into securing next-generation IT and communications infrastructures.
