Violin Memory® has announced another key win for its 7300 Flash Storage Platform (FSP) in the rapidly growing fields of cloud storage and Software as a Service (SaaS).The FSP is the ultimate enterprise storage solution for the consolidation and simplification of next-generation data center workloads, delivering continuous data protection and the highest-performance storage at the lowest CAPEX and OPEX possible today. The number and density of cloud-based workloads running on virtual machines are both forecast to grow at double-digit rates, according to the Cisco Global Cloud Index, 2013–2018. According to the report, total workloads will increase at a 33 percent CAGR over the next several years, and the density of workloads, driven by efficiencies in virtual machine utilisation, will grow at close to a 15 percent rate.
For that to happen, flash storage platforms are a virtual necessity. Removing the I/O bottleneck requires the performance of a hardware platform architected for zero downtime and a unified software stack providing data efficiency, data protection and storage resource management tools essential to supporting active workloads in primary storage environments. A concrete example of this larger trend is this latest win for the Violin 7300 Flash Storage Platform.

The customer is a leading supplier of cloud and SaaS-based ERP and CRM resources, and they maintain a very active development program to tune and optimise their offerings for their rapidly growing customer list. The Violin 7300 has been tasked to support software build and QA functions before updates are released to their production environments.
“The dev ops environment at this customer is write-intensive and takes full advantage of the consistent low latencies afforded by the 7300 FSP Flash Fabric Architecture (FFA™). Our architecture reaches deep into the capabilities of flash technology at the chip level. We don’t use SSD’s,” said Mike Owen, VP western region sales at Violin. “It is also the second time this particular account has taken advantage of our ‘Pay As You Grow’ offering, which lets them forward position additional flash capacity and upgrade without disruption, as their needs grow. It was a good fit.”
