The Cordant Group, one of the UK’s major recruitment organisations, has chosen NetApp to revamp its data storage infrastructure and safeguard candidates’ data.

The Cordant Group currently has 192 locations across the UK and specialises in 36 industry sectors. Given the scale of its growing operations, the group has an extensive IT infrastructure, including various websites and SQL databases, which hold data essential to the successful running of daily operations.
As a large proportion of this data is not being used outside normal working days, the Cordant Group switched the majority of its services to a virtual private cloud. It is hosted on Amazon Web Services, which is supported by NetApp Cloud ONTAP, a software storage appliance built on NetApp Clustered Data ONTAP. It provides a range of performance and capacity options, as well as features such as Snap Manager for quick backups and robust disaster recovery.
As a result, The Cordant Group is now deploying an easy-to-use infrastructure, is able to make robust backups, is making substantial cost savings and is able to complete near-instantaneous backups.

Paul Brown, IT Director for Infrastructure and Support, Cordant Group, said: “A key focus for a dynamic business such as ours is cost, flexibility and the ability to scale up and down. Our physical equipment is essentially in use from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday only, and it is doing nothing for a substantial amount of time. By moving to the cloud, we are looking at cost savings in the region of 40-50%. This is a simple equation. Using NetApp Cloud ONTAP, we can also do important data restores in less than an hour whenever this is needed. This provides us with great flexibility and the business is always running along healthily.”

Elliot Howard, UK & Ireland Country Manager for NetApp, said: “The NetApp Cloud ONTAP solution has clearly helped the Cordant Group to manage their data simply, and in a highly cost-effective manner. The availability of data is vital to any business, but it’s important that on-premise equipment is not superfluous to requirement. It’s great to see that by moving to the cloud and establishing a rigorous data storage infrastructure, the company is saving so much money.”
