Icetope snaps up Intel talent

Iceotope has appointed Mark Laurence as head of channel development. Mark will bring a wealth of industry experience to the company, which has grown remarkably in recent years and represents a perfect example of the government’s ‘Northern powerhouse’ in action – with next week marking one year since George Osborne introduced the term and his economic plan for the north. Operating from Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Park, a thriving regional tech hub, the Iceotope team has grown by 100 percent since 2014. Iceotope also recently announced the launch of its first production system which, like the company’s growth, follows a £6m+ Series A funding round in 2014 and the formation of strategic partnerships with the likes of Schneider Electric, Solvay and Intel.

Mark Laurence, Iceotope’s new head of channel development, is a highly experienced channel manager and technologist. Having spent more than ten years managing key accounts for Intel, across a wide variety of vertical markets, Mark has a proven track record in sales as well as in-depth knowledge of hardware platforms down to the component level. Mark will be responsible for Iceotope’s route to market through resellers and systems integrators, as the company looks to establish and build upon a robust channel ecosystem. On joining Iceotope, Mark said “I’m thrilled to be part of the Iceotope team and I’m confident that there is a growing market for this product. I believe there is a fantastic opportunity for Iceotope to sell through the channel, let’s hope this proves to be the case.”

Mark’s appointment takes the Iceotope team to 33 members of staff, as compared to 15 in 2014. Growing its team and introducing industry experts such as Mark represents a huge step for the company and its technology, which has now been tested in 16 locations worldwide, in which the systems have racked up 10 million core-hours of liquid cooled CPU time.

“Welcoming industry heavy hitters speaks volumes for our ambition as a company as well as our ability to grow and attract the best possible talent,” said Iceotope general manager, Phil Astley. “There are many, many exciting opportunities for Iceotope on the road ahead, and we have already achieved so much, especially in the last year or so. Since 2014 we have tied up a number of key strategic partnerships, the value of which cannot be overstated. Intel, for instance, worked with us to design our first full production system, which has generated great interest since its launch. Especially so in the HPC market – which is of huge importance to the UK economy today, facilitating some of the most pioneering R&D projects in academia and industry.”
