Rackspace launches Content Delivery Networking Service with Akamai

Rackspace has launched Rackspace Content Delivery Network (CDN). This new service is powered by Akamai Technologies, the global leader in CDN services. With the launch of the Rackspace CDN offering, Rackspace and Akamai are expanding their long?standing relationship to offer customers integrated, “one-click” access to Akamai’s industry-leading CDN services via the Rackspace portal. Rackspace CDN will help customers more easily and efficiently deliver entire websites or web applications with global scale and reliability through on-demand access to the Akamai Intelligent Platform.

Research suggests that nearly half of web users tend to leave a website and abandon their search or purchase if the desired page doesn’t load in the first 3 seconds.

Rackspace CDN allows businesses to deliver website content and applications to their customers faster, helping to improve site traffic and customer engagement.

“The integration of Akamai’s CDN allows all Rackspace customers the opportunity to take advantage of it, no matter whether their infrastructure is dedicated or cloud based,” said Matt Johns, Product Manager, Rackspace. “We’ve seen demand grow for this technology in our international regions as customers focus on the performance of their digital platform and look for a faster, more reliable way to deliver website content to their customers. Therefore, as part of Rackspace’s commitment to offering the highest standard of support across a range of technologies, we feel this is an important addition to our managed cloud portfolio.”

With Rackspace CDN, customers now have a competitive advantage, as they will be able to scale out their worldwide presence efficiently without massive infrastructure investments. Rackspace’s ability to provision enterprise services at scale is a hallmark of Fanatical Support. During the early access program, Rackspace CDN specialists were able to provision 300 customers in less than 24 hours.

“Through this strategic relationship, Rackspace customers can benefit from even easier, faster access to the global scale, reach and performance of the Akamai CDN,” said John Sconyers, senior director, Cloud Services Partners, Akamai. “This integration can help users quickly turn on CDN capabilities, using APIs, through Rackspace and immediately take advantage of the ability to offload full web sites and web applications.”
