Cutting IT energy costs

Planet Hippo says that it is the first ISP to offer the new Cisco® Energy Management-as-a-Service offering on an e-commerce basis. This innovative new cloud based solution will help corporate and public sector users to cut IT energy costs by up to 35% and provide 100% visibility into the energy use of every network connected device.

According to Darren Lavender, Planet Hippo’s Managing Director: “Energy Management is no longer just a big company technology and Planet Hippo provides a cost effective platform to deliver real savings to organisations regardless of size. With no hardware or software rollouts to worry about, the Cisco solution can be quickly and easily deployed for a low monthly cost without requiring high levels of technical expertise.”

The Cisco Energy Management suite helps customers to measure and manage the energy use of all connected devices, from any vendor, including switches and routers, desktops and laptops, monitors, wireless access points, IP phones, printers and copiers across distributed office and data centre environments. Planet Hippo provides a web-based portal where users can access a single dashboard showing wasted and saved energy for every IP-connected device along with detailed energy data collection information and specific recommendations for optimising energy usage.

Planet Hippo’s new cloud-based solution also enables organisations to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements for sustainability, carbon accounting and energy use reporting. This includes ESOS, a mandatory energy assessment and energy saving identification scheme that requires qualifying organisations to audit their energy use every four years.

Planet Hippo is giving organisations an opportunity to try the Cisco® Energy Management-as-a-Service without cost. A free, limited-function 45-day Fast Start license allows the monitoring and management of up to 500 network devices enabled by Power over Ethernet (PoE) along with basic reporting features and ROI calculations.
