Urban Wimax rebrands to Luminet

Luminet offering enterprise technology to small businesses.

Luminet is defining a new category in intelligent managed services, giving small businesses access to enterprise-level technology. Established by the acquisition of Vital Group by Urban Wimax, its product portfolio spans connectivity, communications, cloud computing and security services.

A new Intelligent Performance Management layer has been developed to complement these services. This gives small businesses access to real-time traffic analytics, enabling them to adjust and block applications accordingly and prioritise mission-critical traffic on fixed, mobile and machine-to-machine (M2M) networks.

Luminet has invested £2.15 million into its new technology infrastructure, through Santander’s Breakthrough programme. It boasts a powerful mixture of data centres, private cloud environments, as well as a wholly owned network. With the added intelligence layer, it can now offer unparalleled intelligent measurement, authentication, application and network shaping and management - down to the bit and byte, IP or SIM level, bringing visibility and control over business applications across fixed, mobile and M2M networks.

Sasha Williamson, previously CEO and Founder of Urban Wimax, is leading Luminet. Sasha has 18 years’ experience of senior business roles in telecoms.
Sasha Williamson, CEO, Luminet: “We are committed to being at the forefront of technology and innovation, bringing business customers the most advanced solutions in the market. With Urban Wimax we were the first business to commercially launch Wimax services in the UK – the business was a huge success, with turnover growing year on year, and a healthy Ebitda profit margin”

“However, we couldn’t rest on our laurels – the market is shifting. The next era in business technology is the application of intelligence, so that businesses can really see what is happening across their networks and configure applications and policies appropriately. This market of ‘intelligent managed services’ is set to explode over the next couple of years; so we are thrilled to be pioneering it with great solutions, supported by best in breed technology and partners.”

Luminet is focusing on delivering its proposition to enterprises and businesses, which it believes can use network insight to fast-track growth, make productivity gains and savings. Luminet is aiming to radically change the small business IT market – it is initially offering its services to businesses in London, but will be extending availability later in the year. Small businesses are encouraged to subsidise cost via the Government Broadband Connection Vouchers Scheme.

“Small businesses are the life-blood of UK, supporting the economy even more than their enterprise counteracts, but when it comes to IT they have been hugely short-changed,” continues Sasha Williamson. “We have created Luminet to develop IT and communication services, with a level of network intelligence that is usually only available to enterprises, with a price point and total cost of ownership that is designed for all businesses.”

In the coming months, Luminet will be releasing details on its channel programme. It will also be issuing information on its new mobile proposition, as it seeks to leverage its developing Platform-as-a-Service capability to enable visibility and control to mobile enterprise, MVNE’S and M2M providers - enabling them to offer value added services to their customers, delivering significant direct and indirect revenue benefits and great return on investment.
