Security-as-a-service savings

Alert Logic has revealed the findings of a commissioned Total Economic Impact (TEI) study conducted by global analyst firm Forrester Consulting on behalf of Alert Logic. Based on in-depth interviews with Alert Logic customers and their own analysis, Forrester determined that a representative composite customer could avoid $1.36 million in costs over a three-year period by deploying Alert Logic’s security solutions over in-house alternatives. It was also determined that the customer could reduce the number of systems potentially affected by security issues by 80 percent, thereby avoiding the associated downtime for affected employees.

For the study, Forrester interviewed four Alert Logic customers with diverse IT infrastructures and security and compliance requirements. Forrester then created a composite customer based on the characteristics of the interviewed customers. As stated in the study, “From the information provided in the interviews, Forrester has constructed a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) framework for those organisations considering implementing Alert Logic Solutions. The objective of the framework is to identify the cost, benefit, flexibility and risk factors that affect the investment decision.”

In the study, it was determined that a representative composite organisation with two data centers and 10 locations around the world would avoid labor costs associated with threat research, security monitoring, log management and web application firewall management of $632,282 by deploying Alert Logic’s security solutions. Additionally, the infrastructure capital and maintenance expense avoided for an equivalent insourced solution would be $548,544 and downtime expense avoided for end users from improved response to threats and attacks would total $183,185.

“All too often, organisations make investments in security and compliance solutions without a clear understanding of the on-going expense and savings associated with their investments,” said Dave Colesante, Chief Technology Officer for Alert Logic. “We decided to commission this study from Forrester Research to help organisations better understand those expenses and the savings they could achieve with our solutions. We believe the results of the study provide clear, unbiased findings that can help organisations choose the security solutions that enable them to focus on their core business in the most cost effective way, knowing that their data and their customers’ data is secure.”
