Quorum names John Newsom as Chief Executive Officer

Quorum has appointed John Newsom as chief executive officer and member of the board of directors effective immediately, succeeding interim CEO Walter Angerer. The company also announced that Angerer will become the executive chairman of Quorum’s board of directors and will continue to play a key role in guiding the company, supporting Newsom in shaping technology and business direction.

On behalf of Quorum’s board of directors, Angerer said, “As organisations continue to extend the value of their storage investments, the board has unanimously chosen John to lead the company on its aggressive goals for growth. He has a proven track record to accelerate business growth and his drive and creativity, global perspective and customer orientation make John ideally suited to lead Quorum."

Newsom, 53, has more than 20 years of leadership experience in software and technology, including 18 years with Quest Software where he designed, staffed and led global enterprise sales, pre-sales, post-sales and product management teams. This hands-on experience enables him to work closely with Quorum's dedicated sales and engineering teams to build on its one-click disaster recovery and hybrid cloud solutions.

During his time at Quest, Newsom helped the company grow from 44 employees and $6 million in revenue through IPO to 4,000 employees and nearly $1 billion in revenue, leading to its 2012 acquisition by Dell for $2.4 billion. Most recently Newsom served as vice president and general manager of the application management business unit at Quest, where he had full profit and loss responsibility for a $116-million product portfolio. He also held various leadership roles including vice president of worldwide solutions engineering and vice president of sales for the Americas and Asia Pacific. Prior to Quest, he was a software engineer and program manager for Tandem Computers, a leader in fault tolerant and high availability computer systems.

Commenting on his appointment, Newsom said, “I am honored to join Quorum during this important time of tremendous growth and transformation. I look forward to working with our passionate team to deliver innovative cloud-based DR technologies that will help us broaden our reach into new markets and shape the future of our industry.”

Newsom’s tenure begins on the heels of record growth for the company's cloud-based disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) business, which grew 600 percent in the past two years. Revenues for Quorum’s channel reseller program also grew by 200 percent, helping the company further extend its business opportunities worldwide.

Newsom holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Computer Science from California State University at Chico. In his spare time, he also plays lead guitar for a dance rock band called Audio Bomb that covers popular music from the 1980s, 1990s and today.
