Draka’s UC Connect Cat 6a system specified for Dublintresearch facility

Draka’s Cat 6a cabling system has been selected for Dublin City University’s new Nano-Bioanalytical Research Facility (NRF) building.

The cutting-edge facility has been designed to provide facilities for collaborative post-graduate research on nanomaterials, bioanalysis, microfluidics and imaging. The three-storey building comprises a laboratory wing and an administration wing linked by a glazed concourse.

Cable distributor Precision Cables proposed Draka’s quick and easy to install system as a state-of-the-art, cost-effective data-cabling solution for the 1,500 outlet installation in the 3000m2 building.

At the heart of the UC Connect Cat 6a system is Draka’s high density, slim-line Cat 6a U/FTP 10Gb cable. The cable’s patented compact design was developed to enable increased numbers of cables to be installed in cable trays and conduits when compared to standard Cat 6a U/FTP cables. “The slimline design of the cat6A U/FTP cable was key on securing this project” summarised Geoff Byrne of Precision Cables.

The UC Connect Cat 6a system also features a high density, slim-line 10Gb shielded keystone jack for swift, simple and tool-free wire installation. The compact jack features a strain-relief latch based on a crimp-style cable-clamp that holds the cable securely in place without the need for a tie wrap. The keystone jack’s shielded design delivers greater immunity against interference in different working environments.

Elite Data Services is installing the slim-line cable in the NRF building. In addition to its compact diameter, Elite is able to benefit from the compact cable’s improved flexibility, reduced weight and its Reelex® box packaging.

The EU-manufactured cable is supplied in 305m lengths in an environmentally friendly Reelex® EcoCore box for ease of installation. The EcoCore box makes the cable coil easy to move around on site while the Reelex system ensures the cable is dispensed without cable twists, tangles or overruns. And, because the packaging is made of recycled paper, the box can be flattened on site and recycled.

In the NRF building the UC Connect Cat 6a cabling is supported by Draka’s OM3 multimode optical fibre backbone.
