Fujitsu bolsters its channel team

Fujitsu has appointed Colin Smith as Head of Enterprise Servers and Converged Systems. With over 20 years of experience, Smith has joined Fujitsu from Computacenter, where he held the post of HP Alliances Director for two years and was previously HP Category Manager for over six years. Prior to joining the corporate reseller business, Smith worked in a number of channel-facing roles both within distribution – at Tech Data and earlier at Metrologie – and at vendors Symantec and LG Electronics.

“Fujitsu has a great reputation and has been making a really powerful impression in the enterprise channel”, said Colin Smith. “The drive and hunger at Fujitsu is admirable – this is a company with a real desire to succeed and being a part of that has a very strong appeal for me.” Smith joins a channel team that has been growing in strength, stature and repute over the past two years, as Fujitsu has stepped up its investment in partner development. “This new appointment shows our commitment to the channel”, says Craig Parker, Head of Product Marketing in the Fujitsu Technology Products Group. He says: “Colin is a valuable addition to our growing channel support team. He has a great deal of experience and deep understanding of the needs of both distributor and reseller partner and will play an important role in helping Fujitsu and its partners to develop enterprise server and converged infrastructure business.”

Fujitsu has seen accelerating sales and interest in its Cluster-in-a-Box converged solution, which runs Microsoft HyperV, through channel partners in recent weeks. It has also been seeing strong take-up of its VMware-based VShape offering and the recently released Fujitsu Integrated System Appliance for VMware EVO: RAIL. The latter is designed to address the enterprise issues of ICT system bottlenecks and slow deployment times, and is also a great platform for the development of professional and hosted solutions business for managed services providers and VARs.

Parker predicts a strong year of growth for integrated systems. “The new generation of converged platforms are expanding the total available market and bringing virtualised systems that are fast-to-deploy and affordable within the reach of many more customers. We see excellent opportunities for our partners in this market.”
