Avago Technologies has launched two new members of the Syncro family of high-availability shared storage solutions. Now available with 12Gb/s SAS technology, the latest Syncro solutions deliver twice the performance over the previous generation with full 6Gb/s SAS compatibility. Avago Syncro solutions provide small and medium businesses (SMBs), remote offices, and data centers with many of the advanced high availability features found in Storage Area Networks (SANs), but with the cost and easy manageability of Direct Attached Storage (DAS) environments.
Built on Avago MegaRAID® technology, Syncro solutions use two controller cards to allow system administrators to build a high-availability, shared storage solution. Avago Syncro is offered in two deployment models:
Syncro 9380-8e: A kit that contains two Syncro controllers to create shared storage clustering for two volume server nodes and a JBOD. This enterprise-level storage medium allows each Syncro controller to measure and monitor each other and maintain data uptime in the event of a server system failure.
Syncro 9361-8i: A self-contained Cluster-in-a-Box that delivers on data center cost requirements by providing multiple server nodes in a single, reduced form factor chassis. Enables OEMs and system builders to offer full-featured Syncro solutions and deliver high availability that is simple to deploy in a single unit.
“In today’s business-critical environments, having uninterrupted access to information is key for businesses and their customers,” said Jas Tremblay, vice president of marketing, Data Center Solutions Group at Avago. “With enterprise features that include data sharing and high availability of storage, the new 12Gb Syncro solutions ensure that SMBs can maintain system uptime in a cost-effective manner.”
Windows Server 2012 R2 provides the software front-end and toolset for failover clustering and storage management capabilities. Additionally, storage OEMs including Seagate will provide their customers with high availability options that include Windows Server 2012 R2 and Avago Syncro.
“We are pleased to continue collaboration with Avago to bring cost-effective, high-availability storage to a range of traditional and virtualized business environments,” said Michael Leworthy, group manager, Enterprise Cloud, Microsoft.
“Seagate’s scale-out storage solutions are expanding and growing, both from customer demand as well as the overall storage capacity offered in our high-density enclosures,” said Alex Worrall, senior engineering director, System Architecture and Technology Strategy at Seagate. “We are excited and congratulate Avago on the expansion of the Syncro family into 12Gb solutions which will enable the business continuity and efficiency needed by enterprise organizations as well as the continued enhancement to the Avago and Seagate business.”
