OnApp has announced the availability of OnApp for VMware vCloud Director®, an intuitive web and mobile portal designed to transform service delivery for VMware vCloud Air Network service providers.

OnApp for vCloud Director enables service providers to manage VMware-based clouds, provision and bill for services, and provide the latest vCloud Director features to their customers through fully customizable and rebrandable web, iOS and Android portals.

OnApp for vCloud Director supports all new functionality released in vCloud Director 5.6, including VM monitoring and storage profiles. It brings OnApp's extensive control of billing plans to vCloud Director environments, as well as intuitive, self-service VM management for end user/tenant operations.

"VMware vCloud Director 5.6 is gaining momentum with VMware vCloud® Air™ Network service providers," said Geoff Waters, vice president of service provider channel, Cloud Services Business Unit, VMware. "We are excited to have OnApp as a partner. OnApp's Portal for vCloud Director offers vCloud Air Network partners strong capability to accelerate deployment of their VMware based hybrid cloud environments by enabling consumption of a rich set of vCloud Director® features via the user interface."

"We have more than 3,000 service providers using OnApp software, making OnApp a widely used public cloud orchestration and provisioning portal in the business," said Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp. "OnApp is designed for service providers, from the price model to bundled deployment and 24x7 support, and we're now bringing this approach to vCloud Director - so anyone running a VMware-based cloud service can have a beautiful portal, the latest vCloud Director® functionality and super-easy cloud management - and get it all as a simple and affordable add-on to the VMware points licensing they use today."

IndonesianCloud, a long-term user of VMware vCloud Director and member of the VMware vCloud Air Network, turned to OnApp to help enhance and simplify the end user portal and experience for their public cloud services. Neil Cresswell, CEO of IndonesianCloud said:

"Whilst we have a state-of-the-art cloud infrastructure platform, the end user portal lacks many of the features we wanted to provide for our clients. We needed to revolutionize their customer experience and deliver a robust, intuitive and simple portal that would provide complete self-service for customer operations. The OnApp portal for vCloud Director® enables us to deliver that exceptional customer experience, and has a commercial model that fits us perfectly as a service provider. We are really looking forward to the GA release and further expanding the depth and breadth of self-service operations we can bring to our customers."

With the release of vCloud Director 5.6 last year, VMware announced that new vCloud Director functionality will be available only through APIs and third party user interfaces, under its ISV Partner Ecosystem program. OnApp for vCloud Director has been in development for more than six months, and is the second OnApp product to support VMware, following the 2012 introduction of VMware vCenter™ support to the OnApp cloud platform. The release of the new version of OnApp for vCloud Director follows an extensive beta testing program involving more than 100 service providers.

Narendar Shankar recently joined OnApp as President of OnApp USA to accelerate adoption of the new portal for vCloud Director among VMware-based service providers. Prior to OnApp, Shankar held product management roles at VMware, Nexenta, Dell, NetApp, Cisco and Texas Instruments.

"OnApp is transforming the way VMware service providers provision and manage cloud services, just as it did for clouds based on open source virtualization platforms," said Narendar Shankar, President of OnApp USA. "Using OnApp with vCloud Director brings super-intuitive provisioning and management to the vCloud Director environment, support for the very latest features, much more granular billing control and a streamlined user experience overall."
