Allied Telesis has announced the release of the IE200 Series of industrial Ethernet switches. Available in both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit versions, the IE200 Series is ideal for applications in challenging environmental conditions such as elevator engine rooms and external or harsh environments. The IE200 Series meets the high reliability requirements demanded by industrial applications such as IP video surveillance, intelligent transport systems, and building management integration for both indoor and outdoor use.

As organisations strive to improve the availability of services and utilisation of resources, there are an ever-increasing number of devices and sensors that are being used to gather information to enable smarter decisions to be made. This includes real-time information about environmental conditions and resource usage within a building or information about transportation and pedestrian movement in the surrounding area. Regardless of what the information is, many of these devices and sensors are located in environments that are not the typical office environment. And due to the volume of data being generated, wireless connectivity is simply not an option.

The Allied Telesis IE200 Series has been developed to support a broad range of critical infrastructure applications and environments where a highly reliable, feature-rich solution is required. The IE200 Series is available in 6- or 12-port models*, with or without Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) support, and includes a broad range of features and functionality. Both models are DIN Rail mounted, resulting in reduced space, mounting complexity, and cost when compared to a standard rack.

As many new applications today are IPv6 ready, and with the number of connected devices expected to boom, the IE200 Series will feature native IPv6 support, in a future release of firmware, to ensure support for the largest number of devices across a broad range of applications.

Along with support for more traditional features such as port-based VLANs, IEEE 802.1p QoS, 802.1x port security, link aggregation, and port mirroring, the IE200 Series also supports innovative features such as Ethernet Protection Switched Ring (EPSRingTM) and Allied Telesis Management Framework™ (AMF). EPSRing provides greater ring resilience in comparison to traditional technologies, ensuring network functionality is restored in the event of failure with negligible impact on users or applications. In addition, AMF** assists network managers by providing a technology that reduces their daily workload by automating many common management tasks such as replacing failed units, modifying configurations, upgrading firmware, or extending the network. AMF provides IT administrators with a unified network management console and zero-touch device installation and recovery, which saves substantial time and money — a major advantage where many devices are deployed. The IE200 Series also uses “galvanic isolation", which is a unique feature and protects powered equipment against wrongful grounding.

According to Seiichiro Sato, Allied Telesis director of global product marketing, “The IE200 Series extends our existing range of products and provides a single vendor for an organisation’s enterprise and industrial connectivity solutions. It’s the perfect choice for IP video surveillance, intelligent transport, and other embedded applications where the environment can be challenging, or in high-density resilient wiring closet applications where reliability and simplified management are essential. Allied Telesis is committed to reducing the cost and complexity of networking, and the IE200 Series achieves this with an extensive range of features such as EPSRing and AMF.”
