CGA to take advantage of explosive growth in cloud gaming.

Supermicro is launching the Cloud Gaming Appliance (CGA), said to be the first end-to-end solution of its kind on the market.

Designed to enable telcos, datacentres, game developers, game publishers and service providers to enter and take advantage of the massive growth in the cloud gaming market, Supermicro CGA is enabled with nVidia grid gaming GPU cards, to deliver high quality, low latency, multi-device gaming on any PC, Mac, Tablet, Smartphone or TV.

“This is the future for gaming,” says Steve Tyson, Head of Gaming & Entertainment at Supermicro UK. “It is fast, convenient, inexpensive and we predict that it will grow as big as the online movie market if not bigger. In conjunction with nVidia, we are providing an opportunity for any organisation which wants GAAS ( Gaming as a service) to easily provide their customers with the highest level of gaming experience without the need to purchase expensive hardware or software and with no compromise on quality, speed or experience.”

The Supermicro Cloud Gaming Appliance will sit at the heart of any subscription-model click-to-play online video gaming service. It will be available at three different price points to support all levels of gaming:
· the first will be aimed at the serious gamer accessing AAA graphics-intensive gaming experiences;
· the second at gamers accessing popular titles, such as Street Fighter, which attracts large quantities of players but with lower-density graphical requirements;
· the third to support social & casual game use which require huge scale and a high density computing solution.

The CGA is set to disrupt the online computer games sector by delivering unparalleled power for cloud gaming at affordable prices. The total games market is worth $70.4 billion, according to the 2013 Global Games Market Report, but significantly console sales have stagnated while mobile, which dominates the cloud gaming sector, enjoyed an increase in sales of over 35% year on year.

Against this shift, Supermicro is bringing to market a turnkey solution that will allow all gaming service providers to realise substantial increases in net revenues. Supermicro has already formed partnerships with a number of leading GAAS vendors to integrate CGA-powered servers for customers across the UK.
