Nimble Storage introduces Adaptive Flash Arrays

New CS300 and CS500 deliver a 50 per cent increase in performance.

Nimble Storage has announced upgrades to its CS-Series arrays with the introduction of two new families: CS300 and CS500. The new families, like Nimble’s high-end CS700 array, leverage the company’s unique Adaptive Flash CPU-driven architecture and the newest version of Intel’s high-performance Sandy Bridge CPU. The new arrays deliver 50 per cent more performance than the CS200 and CS400 families that they are replacing.

The CS-Series arrays leverage Nimble’s Adaptive Flash platform, providing enterprises with the ability to scale performance and capacity independently. The Adaptive Flash platform is based on Nimble’s patented Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout (CASL™) architecture, and InfoSight™, the company’s automated cloud-based management and support system. Like the recently announced CS700, the CS300 and CS500 arrays can be combined with Nimble’s All-Flash Shelf to support tens of terabytes of flash in a scale-out cluster. Nimble’s Adaptive Flash platform eliminates performance and capacity tradeoffs, providing the performance of flash-only arrays and the capacity of hybrid arrays.

In addition to providing increased performance density in the existing 3U form factor, the arrays offer 10Gbase-T, GbE, and GbE SFP+ networking connectivity, and the ability to interchange connectivity in the future. Customers are also able to take advantage of Nimble’s newly introduced configure-to-order system. The ordering scheme gives customers the flexibility to choose the exact configurations of networking, and flash and drive capacity for their workloads.

“We strive to create a consistent enterprise-class experience across our entire product line,“ said Ajay Singh, vice president of product management at Nimble Storage. “We have developed a platform that adapts as customers consolidate multiple types of workloads with varying performance and capacity demands. The introduction of the Sandy Bridge CPU architecture into our mainstream products expands our ability to address the needs of our customers.”

“Nimble’s Adaptive Flash platform is a highly flexible architecture that is designed to provide industry-leading price/performance benefits to its customers. The approach meshes well with growing end-user demands for a single, scalable storage platform that is future-proofed to meet changing IT needs. By incorporating its innovative technologies across its entire – and now expanded - product line, Nimble’s impressive business growth looks set to continue,” said Mark Peters, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group.
