TelecityGroup has been recertified for the Carbon Trust Standard across its UK facilities, demonstrating its on-going commitment to maximising the carbon efficiency of its operations.
As part of a rigorous recertification process, TelecityGroup demonstrated a 17.5% reduction in carbon, benchmarked against its total installed customer power capacity. The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s leading independent certification of an organisation’s impact of environmental sustainability. TelecityGroup has achieved recertification in recognition of its best practice achievements in energy management which enable the company to minimise its environmental impact. TelecityGroup has held the Standard since 2010 and was the first data centre company to be recertified in 2012 and has continued to demonstrate its commitment to improving its resource management and operational sustainability.
Michael Tobin, CEO of TelecityGroup comments: “TelecityGroup has taken a leadership role in ensuring that energy efficiency is woven into the fabric of the company. This has been recognised with our recertification to the Carbon Trust Standard. Our European operations set the highest standards in energy efficiency and demonstrate the data centre industry’s critical role in mitigating carbon use in a burgeoning digital economy.”
TelecityGroup is committed to excellence and setting the benchmark through its environmental strategy and quality standards. Adhering to stringent industry standards, TelecityGroup leads the market in environmental initiatives and its Energy Management Programme is designed around the ISO 14001 international environmental management standard and the implementation of the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres’ best practices. This approach enables TelecityGroup to identify and manage its environmental impact; improve performance and control; and ensure that continual improvement mechanisms are in place.
The Carbon Trust Standard is one of the world's leading certifiers of carbon footprint reduction, providing an objective benchmark against which to assess an organisation's ability to measure and reduce emissions in a three year period. The recertification process is equally robust, demanding an even greater focus on the implementation of energy management processes and ongoing improvements to carbon efficiency. In total, Carbon Trust Standard-certified companies have achieved reductions of over 3.6 Metric Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent, the standard measurement of CO2 emissions.
