Rompetrol chooses VCE Vblock

KMG International (formerly The Rompetrol Group), one of the most well-established oil group of companies operating in Romania, is to upgrade its existing IT infrastructure to the Vblock™ System 340.

The decision was made primarily to help ensure the scalable capacity needed to support the company’s expectations for data growth and introduction of new projects, but also to improve performance, security and functionality.

KMG International will run multiple mission-critical applications on its new VCE converged infrastructure, including Microsoft Exchange, Group Business Intelligence, Terminal Automation System, CRM and the continuation of its SAP rollout to other group entities. It will also address business continuity through a new IT disaster recovery strategy and process.

“Over the last 3 years, KMG International has deployed a series of critical business applications in the virtual environment. However, a deep technical analysis of our previous IT infrastructure revealed limited storage capacity, very low CPU and cache utilization and increasing response times. We realized that a complete transformation of our IT was required to cope with the business objectives and exponential data growth, but also to eliminate any potential downtime risk. We decided that a technology refresh offered better budget utilisation and long-term benefits than investing in maintaining an already inefficient platform, so that’s why we chose to migrate to the new Vblock System 340.” said Marcel Chiriac, CIO, KMG International.

The new Vblock Systems will accommodate KMG International’s business applications on a private cloud model, ensuring a high degree of scalability in deploying new projects, but also improved operational efficiency.

“Migration to Vblock System 340 converged infrastructure will help us to deliver more and better IT services, transforming our organisation and helping us achieve greater scalability and lower overall IT costs. Also, the project allows a cost effective implementation of a business continuity oriented IT architecture according to best practices and industry standards compliance”, declared Vlad Moca, Rompetrol IT Operations Manager.

The increased storage capacity and performance will allow the group of companies to provide enhanced email services mitigate license compliance risks and develop a solid foundation for corporate document management.

“We are delighted to be working with such a progressive organisation as KMG International. By simplifying its IT through the pre-integrated, standardised nature of the Vblock System, the company has transformed its IT infrastructure to ensure increased responsiveness to business demands,” said Tim Page, EVP Global Sales, VCE. “It’s great to see that KMG International is already experiencing the benefits of simplified management, enhanced performance and increased availability, which is enabling them to focus on IT innovation rather than IT maintenance.”

The project was deployed with support from Romtelecom Business Solutions, Crescendo and AVNET Technology Solutions.
