Securing hybrid networks

Ipanema Technologies and Zscaler have partnered up to offer organisations worldwide what they claim is a cost-reducing combination of WAN performance optimisation and Internet Security-as-a-Service.

The goal is to provide companies with unprecedented application performance over hybrid networks (MPLS, Intranet and Internet) and uncompromising security along with significant network cost savings. Under the partnership, Ipanema plans to integrate its WAN Application Performance Guarantee system with Zscaler’s Security as a Service platform.

This will enable enterprises to benefit from secure, automatic, optimised hybrid networking, which combines Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) infrastructure for wide area network traffic with local, secure and direct employee access to the Internet – eliminating the need for expensive traffic backhauling.

Through this partnership, organisations looking to roll out hybrid networks to take advantage of consumer, public and private cloud computing will no longer need to deploy expensive security appliances to protect their employees and will be able to dynamically select the best path in order to guarantee business applications performance. The partnership is also expected to greatly reduce wide area networking costs for joint customers, as Internet-bound traffic no longer has to be backhauled from regional or branch offices to corporate headquarters.

The combined approach of dynamic Application Performance Guarantee over hybrid networking from Ipanema and Zscaler’s Security as a Service platform allows enterprises to deploy unified, dynamic and inline security that can inspect all employee traffic to and from the Internet and provide Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) protection that blocks the most dangerous threats before they reach company networks.

It also allows users to guarantee application performance over hybrid networking by dynamically selecting the best network path using real-time measurement of traffic conditions, availability and application characteristics, and deliver complete visibility on application usage and performance over the hybrid network.

"To make Cloud-enabled networking a reality, companies need a system that protects business application performance against recreational use over hybrid networks, automatically routes traffic either to the WAN or to the Internet and a cloud security platform that enables employees to connect directly to the Internet in a safe and controlled way,” said Craig Stewart, VP Zscaler EMEA. “Ipanema delivers the former and Zscaler the latter – enabling end-users to enjoy a dramatically better and safer Internet and Intranet experience - coupled with the elimination of expensive security hardware and significant MPLS cost savings.
